A bit more about Catherine

Catherine Laudone joined the Simon & Schuster Books for Young Reader’s editorial team in March 2013. As an assistant editor, she has edited Say No to the Bro by Kat Helgeson (a Junior Library Guild Selection), Finding Felicity by Stacey Kade, Final Fall by Heather W. Petty and the upcoming YA novels Learning to Breathe by Janice Lynn Mather and Your Destination is on the Left by Lauren Spieller. She has also worked with talented authors such as Shelby Bach, Michelle Hodkin, Tommy Wallach, A.L. Sonnichsen, and Non Pratt, among others. Catherine is primarily looking to acquire contemporary, literary, and historical YA with a strong narrative voice and original hook, and middle grade stories featuring quirky, heartwarming characters, with or without magical realism. She is also looking for picture books that have a “classic” feel to them and commercial chapter books with series potential. Prior to starting at S&S, Catherine graduated with a BFA in Writing, Literature, and Publishing from Emerson College and completed internships at several publishing houses and literary agencies, including HarperCollins Children’s Books, Sourcebooks’ Jabberwocky and Teen Fire, and Dystel, Goderich & Bourret LLC. When she’s not reading for work or pleasure, Catherine can be found playing tennis or enjoying a cup of chocolate mint tea. Follow her on Twitter: @CatherineLaud

Catherine prefers to Critique YA and MG fiction. Second to that would be picture books and chapter books.

Our Crit-N-Chat sessions are live on our Zoom platform. You will meet one-on-one with Catherine about your manuscript. There will be time to also ask other pressing questions about your story or other stories.

Please know these chats will fill quickly, so please register at your earliest convenience to hold your spot.

If you have questions, please email Jodell at [email protected]
